Hi, I’m Lizzie, an industry insider who has the tools and experience to get your wholesale business where you want it to be.

After a decade of running London design store SMUG, I know what stockists are looking for and I’ve seen the mistakes that designers make time and time again when it comes to communicating their work with buyers.

Want more stockists? My Borrow the Buyer Audit is for you.

Here’s what you’ll get :

  • New orders from existing and brand new stockists

  • Stockists that feel the perfect fit for your brand

  • Repeat orders

  • A clear step-by-step strategy that makes it feel easy to grow your business

  • The comfort and knowledge that your wholesale business is making you proper money!

Here’s how it works :

  1. You send me your look book/catalogue, line sheet, price list; whatever you would send over to a potential new stockist.

  2. I act as your ‘test run buyer’. I go through what you send me with a fine tooth comb, looking for anything and everything that will have put off buyers and stockists in the past and that I know will continue to put them off in the future if we don’t make these changes asap. These are the things that we’ll be tweaking in order to turn those tumbleweed lack of responses, into brand spanking new orders from stockists who go on to make regular orders.

Just to be clear - I’ll be doing this with my ‘10 years of experience being a buyer for a successful lifestyle store’ hat on. Over the decade of running SMUG, I sifted through literally thousands of submissions from designers who hoped to have their work stocked at SMUG (I still get submission emails even now!) I saw the same mistakes time and time again. I know the things that are getting in your way and stopping those buyers from placing an order with you. So many of these things can be super easy to fix. You just need to know what to look for.

  3. I’ll send you a video where I go through your work on screen, showing you easy tweaks you can make to specific parts of your look book and price list. I’ll talk you through areas I think you could improve/expand/flesh out as well. So there will be a mix of quick easy wins and longer term improvements/developments to make to your offering. All with the view to getting you more orders and more new stockists.

  4. You’ll spend a couple of weeks making tweaks and changes to perfect your look book and price list and send it back to me. You’ll also come up with a list of specific questions you have for me relating to what I’ve suggested but also questions about your strategy going forward. Again, this is all with a view to get you new orders and new stockists.

  5. We have a 45 min Zoom call where we go over where your look book, price list etc is at now and work through your questions to make a step-by-step strategy you will then implement to go entice your new stockists and grow your wholesale business!

Sound good ?. . .

What makes Lizzie such an expert? Well . . . Remember SMUG?

In 2009, I founded and opened my first business baby, SMUG. I established, grew and developed the well-loved north London lifestyle store over a bit more than a decade. As well as getting to build a wonderful team, develop a loyal customer base and community and receive rather a lot of lovely press, I fielded tonnes and tonnes and tonnes of submissions from designer makers and larger brands hoping to have their work stocked at SMUG. I got very good at deciding in a couple of seconds if a submissions would be worth taking the time to look through. There were so many coming in that I’d have to make this judgement very quickly and move on to the next submission to do the same. Time and time again I’d give a submissions a quick glance and know if it was one to spend a bit of time looking at more closely, or if it would go on the ‘no pile’ so to speak.

Want to know what I was looking for? Well as well as the obvious ‘is it a good fit for SMUG’ in terms of style and aesthetic, there were so many little things that would make a new submission a quick no. It makes complete sense that artists, illustrators, ceramicists, jewellery makers, textile designers, designer makers of all different sorts, would not have had the exposure to what buyers are looking for in terms of margins and mark-ups and units per design (to name just a few). Why would designer makers know that the number of different designs within a new collection would make it more or less likely that their work would make it onto the shop floor of one of their dream stockists?

I would see the same errors, mistakes, omissions time and time again. And when you have over 100 submissions to get through (and a business to run) you can’t spend your time contacting every designer to let them know the tweaks and changes they should make to their submission to take it from a no to yes. But I now I can! After a decade at SMUG and several years on top of that as a small business coach, I am perfectly placed to be this expert for you. You can now borrow my insider knowledge, as buyer at SMUG, paired with my experience as a coach, supporting designer makers to make more money doing what they love. SO . . . Let’s get you some NEW stockists and regular wholesale orders!
